Located in Encampment, Wyoming on private property, the Pickett Restoration Project was completed in the Fall of 2018. Due to channel instabilities and a large headcut in an evolving side channel the downstream reaches were receiving significant sediment infiltration causing loss of aquatic habitat. The project objectives for this 1,450’ project on the Encampment River was to eliminate the sediment sources, re-establish floodplain continuity, ensure adequate sediment transport, and establish more diverse aquatic habitat using natural channel design methods. Relocation of an existing Point of Diversion head gate was also an important factor of this project to establish adequate annual adjudicated water to downstream irrigators. The North State Environmental team utilized onsite rock & wood material to implement the design.
