Located in the Big Horn National Forest, the Shutts Flats Mitigation project was a Wyoming DOT project that was originated due to construction on Burgess Junction. The 4,000 linear foot project on the South Tongue River required narrowing of the existing alignment by using onsite boulder and log material for long term integrity then covered with large sedge mats for instant vegetation establishment. 5 acres of wetlands were also created within this project for water storage and microorganism habitat.
